Artur Avila
Artur Avila is a researcher at both the IMPA in Brazil and the University of Zurich, who works on dynamical systems and spectral theory.
Artur Avila was born in 1979 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He won a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1995, and received his PhD from the IMPA in 2001. Professor Avila was awarded the Fields Medal in 2014. He also received, among others, the Salem Prize (2006), the EMS Prize (2008), the Michael Brin Prize in Dynamical Systems (2011) and the TWAS Prize (2013). In 2010 Professor Avila was a plenary speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad.
Alessio Figalli
Alessio Figalli is a professor at ETH Zürich, who works mainly on calculus of variations and partial differential equations.
Alessio Figalli was born in 1984 in Rome, Italy. He received his PhD from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in 2007. Professor Figalli was awarded the Fields Medal in 2018. He also received, among others, the EMS Prize (2012), the Stampacchia Gold Medal (2015) and the Feltrinelli Prize (2017). In 2014 Professor Figalli was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul. He is a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences.
Martin Hairer
Martin Hairer is a professor at Imperial College London, who works mainly on stochastic partial differential equations.
Martin Hairer was born in 1975 in Geneva, Switzerland. He received his PhD from the University of Geneva in 2001. Professor Hairer was awarded the Fields Medal in 2014. He also received, among others, the Philip Leverhulme Prize (2008) and the Fermat Prize (2013). In 2014 Professor Hairer was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of London and the American Mathematical Society as well as a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
Pierre-Louis Lions (cancelled)
Pierre-Louis Lions is a professor at both the Collège de France and the CEREMADE, Université Paris-Dauphine, who works on partial differential equations and applications.
Pierre-Louis Lions was born in 1956 in Grasse, France. He received his PhD from Université Pierre et Marie Curie in 1979. Professor Lions was awarded the Fields Medal in 1994. He also received, among others, the Ampère Prize of the French Academy of Sciences in 1992. Professor Lions was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Warszawa (1983) and Kyoto (1990), and a plenary speaker at ICM 1994 in Zurich. He is a member of the Academia Europaea, the French Academy of Sciences, the Accademia dei Lincei and the French Academy of Technologies.
In July 2019, Pierre-Louis Lions had to cancel his participation in the conference for important personal reasons.
Stanislav Smirnov
Stanislav Smirnov is a professor at both the University of Geneva and the Skoltech, who works on complex analysis, mathematical physics, dynamical systems and probability theory.
Stanislav Smirnov was born in 1970 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He won gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1986 and 1987, and received his PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 1996. Professor Smirnov was awarded the Fields Medal in 2010. He also received, among others, the Clay Research Award (2001), the Salem Prize (2001), the Rollo Davidson Prize (2002) and the EMS Prize (2004). In 2006 Professor Smirnov was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid. He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society as well as a member of the Academia Europaea and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Shing-Tung Yau
Shing-Tung Yau is a professor at Harvard University, who works on differential geometry, differential equations and general relativity.
Shing-Tung Yau was born in 1949 in Shantou, China. He received his PhD form the University of California, Berkeley in 1971. Professor Yau was awarded the Fields Medal in 1982. He also received, among others, the Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry (1981), the Humboldt Prize (1991), the Crafoord Prize (1994) and the Wolf Prize in Mathematics (2010). In 1978 Professor Yau was a plenary speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Helsinki. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, India and the American Mathematical Society as well as a member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Accademia dei Lincei.
Maciej Zworski
Maciej Zworski is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who works on partial differential equations, microlocal analysis and scattering theory.
Maciej Zworski was born in 1963 in Wrocław, Poland. He received his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1989. Professor Zworski was awarded the Coxeter–James Prize of the Canadian Mathematical Society in 1999. In 2002 he was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing. Professor Zworski is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
